is pleased to announce the first
(and possibly last)
The Normathon is now over, see the contest pages for winners!
In order to celebrate the Twelfth Anniversary [OOC Third Year] of the first publication of Norm's Adventures, the Norm Foundation will be sponsoring a series of Events and Contests that will allow all of the exiles of Puddleby an opportunity to participate in the "Glory That Was Norm." Over the next several weeks you will be able to help Norm remember past adventures, to take part in exciting competitions with fabulous prizes, and to look forward to another twelve years of Norm's rantings.
Descriptions of the main events, along with rules and other conditions, are appended forthwith. The Foundation welcomes all exiles to take part in the festivities, and encourages the adventurous and foolhardy to sponsor their own spontaneous events that fit in with the general theme of "Norm." All events will run from now until the last day of Spring, 545 [OOC 20 March 2002].
It will well known that "chiggers" are disgusting, revolting, disease-carrying little parasites with no redeeming features whatsoever. Not only this, they breed even faster than vermines and have recently been evolving into even more ugly and dangerous forms. The Chiggerthon portion of the Events will give all exiles, even the most newly exiled, a chance to celebrate Norminess, rid the town of Puddleby (and environs) of these nasty pests, and make a few coins as well.
Throughout the Normathon the Foundation has set up a schedule for posting generous bounties for the slaying of chiggers. The time, duration, and amount of the bounties will be varied so as to allow as many exiles as possible to take part. All you, the happy participant, need do is take club in hand and whack those chiggers! The more you whack, the more coins you make, and the fewer chiggers will be left to disgust future generations of exiles! As each bounty is posted, the amount will be added to the official list, available in a public location.
One of the most important jobs that Norm has pursued over the years is the clearing away of fallen branches and logs from the forests surrounding Puddleby. Now you too can experience the thrill of gathering deadfall in the woods and have a chance to win a fabulous prize for your efforts! In the Logathon the exile who scores the most logs of wood will receive a grand prize of three chains and 500 coins; the second place winner will receive one chain.
The rules are simple: exiles will gain one point for each log that they turn in to a builder of their choice during the period of the contest. Each log must be turned over in the presence of a judge (i.e. Norm). A running total will be available on a scroll posted in a public location. In the event of a tie a cash award of equivalent value may be substituted for one or more of the chains.
Over the years the Diary has included an amazing amount of truly trivial information, and now here's your chance to earn some return for all of the time you have wasted reading Norm's random thoughts. Norm has prepared a modest list of useless trivia about the Diary, the events reported on therein, and the general subject of Normality. To take part in the Triviathon contestants should copy the list of questions, answer as many as they can, and drop the result in Norm's mailbox. The exile who answers the most questions correctly will receive a Grand Prize of 3,000 coins, and all exiles who score at least 50% will be entered in a random drawing for the special Potion Assortment prize (includes two each of the red, tykan and energy potions).
The official list of trivia questions has been posted in a public location. The correctness of submitted answers is at the sole discretion of the judges (i.e. Norm). All questions concerning the Diary itself refer only to the completed volumes (1 through 14). In the event of a tie the cash prize will be divided among the winners.
Members of the Foundation and their families are not eligible for any prizes.
